When working with BAPIs, certain important rules and guidelines must be followed to ensure optimal performance, consistency and system stability. This blog will cover some key points that every developer or consultant should keep in mind while creating and using BAPIs.
- BAPI Mustn’t Contain CALL TRANSACTION
A BAPI should never use the CALL TRANSACTION statement, which is typically used for executing a transaction in batch input or background processing. This is because BAPIs are designed to be universal and directly calling transactions can disrupt the modular nature of BAPIs.
– Reason: CALL TRANSACTION leads to transactional data changes that can bypass BAPI design principles.
– Best Practice: Ensure all data updates and changes happen through standardized BAPI methods instead of calling transactions.
- BAPI Mustn’t Invoke COMMIT WORK
In the case of BAPIs, it’s crucial not to use the COMMIT WORK statement directly. Instead, the BAPI_TRANSACTION_COMMIT function module should be used to commit changes. This keeps BAPI calls consistent, allowing control over when database changes should be committed or rolled back.
– Reason: BAPIs are often used in external systems and directly invoking COMMIT WORK can lead to unexpected data commits without external system control.
